A few hours ago, Mars received a garbled message from Phobos.
"We require immediate military support. Something fraggin' evil is coming out of the Gateways! Computer systems have gone berserk!" The rest was incoherent and indeed the computers were useless, only mentioning "demons", "Hell" and nonsensical things like that. Soon afterwards, Deimos simply vanished from the sky. Since then, attempts to establish contact with either moon have been unsuccessful.
You and your buddies, the only combat troop for fifty million miles were sent up pronto to Phobos. You were ordered to secure the perimeter while the rest of the team went inside. For several hours, your radio picked up the sounds of combat : guns firing, men yelling orders, screams, bone cracking, then finally, silence. Seems your buddies are dead.
Things aren't looking too good. You'll never navigate off the planet on your own. Plus, all the heavy weapons have been taken by the assault team leaving you with only a rifle. If only you could get your hands around a plasma rifle or even a shotgun you could take a few down on your way out. Whatever killed your buddies deserves a couple of pellets in the forehead. Securing your helmet, you exit the landing pod. Hopefully you can find more substantial firepower somewhere within the station.
As you walk out of the teleporter that brought you to the hangar, you hear animal-like growls echoing throughout the distant corridors.
They know you're here.
There's no turning back now.
This is my attempt at remaking E1M1. It took me a few days building it and tweaking everything but I'm proud of the result.
Note that it's not supposed to be carbon copy of the original map. It's a remake, a re-imagined version of E1M1 that was designed with both Snapmap's limitations and the gameplay of the new DOOM in mind. The point was to create a map that feels familiar, yet different. This is not 1993 anymore!
To explore the hangar you might need to use your character's mobility (The double jump is activated from the start). Jump and climb to reach bonuses but also to get the upper hand in combat! There are more than a few imps and zombies that roam the hangar and the demons are more dangerous too.
It's quite a challenging map.
One advice : the posseded soldiers and guards drop shotguns and ammo when they die.
Exploration is a key feature in DOOM and it's the same with this map. All of the three secrets of the original E1M1 are included plus two new ones.
I hope you'll enjoy playing this map as much I enjoyed creating it. Please share and comment.
